LOLA'S Seafood Eatery
Tastes of Tequesta Tour Stop # 7
LOLA’S Seafood Eatery
Stop number seven on The Tastes of Tequesta Tour took Mayor Abby Brennan to LOLA’S Seafood Eatery. Located in the Tequesta Shoppes plaza at the northeast corner of US Highway 1 and Tequesta Drive, LOLA’S Seafood Eatery is fashioned after the cafes found along the New England coast where owner Laurie Paulino grew up. She and co-owner Chef Bernard Uffer have been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and do not cut corners when it comes to the food they serve. Twice a week, seafood is purchased at auction in Boston and shipped fresh to the four LOLA’S locations in South Florida. Belly clams, lobster, cod, mussels, and crabs form the basis for seafood bowls served over linguini, Ipswich clam steamers, lobster rolls, battered fish and chips and lump crab cakes. In addition, locally-sourced seafood, including dolphin (Mahi), grouper and fresh-catch blackboard specials, are prepared and served in sandwiches, tacos and over salads.
Joining the Mayor at LOLA’S Seafood Eatery were founder and president Sara Lankler, and executive director Mary Hinton, of the Renewal Coalition. This Jupiter/Tequesta non-profit provides retreats for wounded soldiers of post-911 incursions and their families. Costs for travel, housing, meals, and activities are fully underwritten by grants and local donors and staffed by a host of dedicated volunteers. More information about the Renewal Coalition can be found at www.renewalcoalition.org.
Sara chose the grilled dolphin sandwich served with baby greens, roasted sweet pepper and a side of “bottleneck” beer-battered fries. Mary enjoyed a large bowl of New England clam chowder and Abby chose jumbo lump crabmeat atop of specialty salad tossed in LOLA’S homemade orange-basil vinaigrette. The evening was complete when LOLA’S manager Madelaine delivered steaming hot “LOLA’S Favorite” beignets dusted with powdered sugar. LOLA’S Seafood Eatery is a small and cozy café where casual attire is always welcome. It’s that special place in Tequesta to find authentic New England-style fare with a Florida flair.
