Tastes of Tequesta Tour Stop # 9
Flip Flop Sub Shop

The location of stop number nine on Mayor Abby Brennan’s Tastes of Tequesta Tour was a bit different from other restaurants in the Village. The Sunoco gas station, located at the north-west corner of US Highway 1 and Tequesta Drive, is now home to Flip Flop Sub Shop. According to owner Greg Roy, this small take-out eatery has more than doubled its sales since relocating to the Village just three months ago. Greg attributes the increase to the strong patronage of Tequesta-area residents, along with faithful customers from Flip Flop’s previous location.

It’s quite the experience at Flip Flop Sub Shop as the non-stop bantering between Greg and his partner Bronco Baranick make standing in line entertaining. They know what many of their customers are likely to order and begin making their subs and salads before they reach the counter. Big sellers at Flip Flop Sub Shop are homemade meatball subs, chicken salad made with apples, cranberries, onion, and celery, and a “secret recipe” tuna salad. Abby enjoyed a roast beef and provolone sub with lettuce and tomato on a toasted roll. A customer in line also convinced her to try the homemade wasabi horseradish spread.

Greg told Abby that he uses just a few words to describe the sub shop. “Those who know…. know.” He went on to say, “now Tequesta knows!”
