Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement

The Code Compliance Division has been relocated to Village Hall in the Building Department. Code Compliance Officers are the duly authorized agents as outlined in the Village Code to ensure code compliance throughout the Village of Tequesta.

New Law Bans Anonymous Code Enforcement Complaints

A new Florida state law prohibits local governments from investigating anonymous code compliance complaints.  Per Florida Statutes 125.69, 162.21 and 166.0415, the Village of Tequesta is prohibited from accepting anonymous complaints of code violations.  The law went into effect July 1, 2021 and specifically states that a code compliance officer may not initiate a potential violation investigation that stems from an anonymous complaint and that an individual must now provide their name and address prior to an investigation occurring.

You can report a potential code violation by submitting the Report Code Violation Online Form or calling (561) 768-0519;  you must include your name and address.  You can also include any evidence of the violation including your full eyewitness account and photographs, etc.   If you have any questions, please contact the Building Dept. at (561) 768-0450.

Special Magistrate

According to Section 2-151, the Village Council appoints a Special Master (Magistrate) for a two year term. The duties of the Special Master are to preside over code enforcement matters once a month. All hearings of the Special Master are open to the public and minutes are maintained.

To view the Special Masters jurisdiction and the Code Compliance procedure, please refer to the Village of Tequesta Code of Ordinances.
