Inspections

Inspections are performed Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 12 noon. It is not possible to schedule exact inspection times. 

To schedule an inspection, please use the online portal, email or call us at 561-768-0450. 

Please be sure to provide us with the following information:

  • Job address
  • Permit number
  • Type of inspection
  • Contact name and telephone number

The cut off time for inspections is by 3 p.m. the day before the intended inspection day.

The Village of Tequesta Building Department now offers a virtual inspections tool that allows contractors to complete inspections — using a smartphone with a camera and internet connection. Our inspectors can conduct thorough virtual inspections from any location, helping you save time and reduce costs.

Contractors are encouraged to schedule their inspection for the day in which the work is being performed. 

Eligible Permit Types

Virtual inspections are currently available for the following permits:

  • Roofs
  • Windows and Door
  • Water Heater Change out
  • AC Change out
  • Signs

Note: Contractors must have a smartphone with a good camera and signal, and “Allow” and/or “Enable” permissions for Location, Camera, and Microphone.

A smartphone (Apple iOS or Android) is required for a virtual inspection. The interactive inspection session is browser-based, so there is no application to install at this moment. The scheduling process requires you to provide a phone number for the onsite contractor who will participate in the virtual inspection. Near the time of the scheduled inspection, the contractor, who was identified during the scheduling process, will receive a text message from a Village inspector that contains the virtual inspection session link. A link is not provided in advance of the scheduled inspection time.

How to get started

  1. Schedule your inspections by 3 p.m. the day before the intended inspection day on BS&A portal or by calling 561-768-0450. You will have the chance to choose between two timeframes, morning or afternoon. Be ready to provide a phone number for the contractor or representative who will be on the job site.
  2. The morning of your pre-scheduled inspection call 561-768-0450 between 8:00am and 8:30 am to establish a time range for your Virtual Inspection. 
  3. Be ready to receive a SMS Text Message with a link to join the video call within your specific time range scheduled. Accept and follow the prompts forwarded to your phone. Respond to requests from the Inspector.

Important notes

Privacy – Nothing will be saved to your device and the Inspector cannot see or copy anything from their device – aside from seeing the live-streaming video and hearing audio during the video inspection. 

Permissions – When prompted you must tap “Allow” and/or “Enable” permissions for Camera, Microphone, and Location. These permissions are temporary and constrained to the video call window in the web browser. When the video inspection ends, the permissions end. 

Poor Connection – If you are experiencing poor connection in the video call, the inspector may perform the inspection over the phone by calling you and texting you a link to upload photos.

Tips for successful inspections

  • Work must match what is shown on the approved plans. If the actual conditions of the job are different than what is shown on the approved plans OR you are unable to follow the work on the approved plans you will need to notify your design professional and have them revise the plans and submit them to the Village of Tequesta for approval BEFORE calling for an inspection.
  • Please do not cover ANY work until it has been approved by a Village of Tequesta Building Inspector.
  • Make sure the work is COMPLETED and READY for inspection before requesting an inspection. Not being ready for an inspection can result in re-inspection fees and project delays.
